Vijayadashami — The day Dharma defeated Adharma
Dunuwila, Kandy, Sri Lanka
Vijayadashami marks the day Lord Rama vanquished the ten-headed king Ravana, ending a great war and restoring dharma to the world.
According to the Ramayana, after Ravana abducted Sita, Rama — with Lakshmana, Hanuman and the vanara army — crossed the ocean and fought a fierce battle to bring her home.
His victory on the tenth day of Navratri is remembered every year as the triumph of good over evil, courage over fear, and light over darkness.
Twenty days later, Rama’s return to Ayodhya would be celebrated as Diwali.
