Thiksey Monastery is one of the most beautiful and well-known Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh, located about 19 km from Leh. Perched on a hill, it resembles the famous Potala Palace in its architecture, with whitewashed buildings rising in tiers. Belonging to the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism, the monastery is home to many monks and features temples, stupas, and a striking 15-meter-high statue of Maitreya Buddha. It offers peaceful surroundings and stunning views of the Indus Valley.
